Audiowalk around Brede Works

Explore the idyllic area around Brede Works with our digital audio tour and hear the stories of the working class community at the old textile factory, which paved the way for the welfare state we know today.
This digital audio tour takes you on a journey back in time to the cradle of industry. Across 12 stops, you’ll get a glimpse into the lives of the factory owner and the workers at the textile mill between 1880 and 1910. Their lives were very different, yet inextricably intertwined.

12 highlights

If you follow the audio tour’s 12 stops, you’ll pass the Main Building, the Workers’ Housing, the Foremen’s Housing, the Grocery Shop, the School, the Asylum, the Factory Gate, the Dining Hall, the Nursery, Modeweg’s Obelisk, the Nazareth House, and the Watermill. Through original audio recordings featuring former workers, you’ll even get to hear stories from fascinating firsthand accounts. Keep an eye out for QR codes and signs as you’re quietly guided through the area by the audio tour.
